A better rig

Replace the basic rig with this. Attach a snaplink swivel (a swivel with a clasp) to ledger or feeder so you can change between different kinds, and thread line through that. Pop a plastic bead on the line as a stopper. Tie a swivel to the end of the line. Take another piece of line and tie that to the other end of the swivel; tie hook to the other end of that. Leave an inch or two (20–50 mm) between the bead and the swivel; the hook length can be lighter line if the fish are finicky. This rig lets you change feeders and ledgers quickly and the swivel helps prevent kinking which can damage the line.
